Introduction:

Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management system (RDBMS) developed by the Microsoft, which is more structured and well defined and hence conversion of the MS-Access into SQL server is very much essential.

Types of SQL server based on the size of the companies:

  1. Enterprise: This would be an ideal choice for big enterprises with complex data needs, database warehousing, and web based databases.
  2. Standard: This is suitable for small and medium organizations. It supports e-commerce and data warehousing.
  3. Workgroup: Smaller organizations can go for this type of SQL server. There is no user limitations and can be used in the branch offices of a big firm.
  4. Express: This belongs to a freely distributed type. It has very few features and has a limitation towards the database size and the number of users. This can be used as a replacement for an Access database.

Need for conversion of MS-Access to SQL server:

At times, the excel goes out of control and there comes a necessity to convert the Excel database application to a relational SQL Server database application in order to eliminate the multiuser problems, providing reliable and repeatable business functions, and improving the quality and consistency of the underlying data.

Once it has been converted, the server provides a more structured approach for all the business needs.

Comparing MS-Excel with SQL server:

  • It is true that excel spreadsheets are flexible, but has its own limitations when the number of users are concerned, as it supports only few users. Whereas the SQL server is flexible, but without any limitations on the number of users. Therefore with this regard of number of unlimited users, the SQL server stands high.
  • Excel has bad data structure even though it is flexible as mentioned above, but the SQL server database supports well structured and well planned database structure.

Why Excelq?

Everybody is choosing Excelq because it can import data from Excel spreadsheets to MS SQL Server, and it would make the excel application more structured, while preserving the original functional integrity of the original MS Excel spreadsheet.

  1. The flow of the process is well defined.
  2. Multiple concurrent users.
  3. There is just one password with so much security.
  4. There are no version issues.
  5. Auditability is very high with full audit trail.
  6. The data integrity is highly constrained.
  7. The data capacity is absolutely unlimited.
  8. The data structures are three dimensional.

Even after the conversion of the MS-Excel to the SQL server, the data can be viewed, exported and analyzed in the MS-Excel!

Conclusion:

Due to this conversion, the data input, equations, and data manipulation becomes part of a structured, well-defined database application, which provides more improved data entry consistency, better versioning as new capabilities get added with easier and straightforward user interfaces.

Last but not the least, the data can be controlled and made available through proper security over the Internet, so that the data can be accessed from anywhere in the world thus making it more flexible and user friendly.

Thus it would be an ideal smart choice to go for the SQL server!!!
