With the advent of Excel, it is now easier than ever to create, manage, share and edit databases with solutions to several complicated business issues. Among the all other important features of Excel, the migration of data is not only easy to execute but it is also time saving.

Data Transference between Several Sheets

Data transference works in many ways and can be used for a variety of options. One such option is the migration or transference of data in Excel between several worksheets. This is possibly the most frequently applied for option in terms of data migration.

Data can be transferred in Excel both manually as well as automatically depending on the size of the data contained in a worksheet. If the Excel worksheet contains a small number of records, you can opt for a manual operation for the migration of data across sheets. But for data that has a large size, it is advisable not to opt for manual operations to a great degree. Manually migrating data from one sheet to another is possible only when the data is as small as say a list of attendance in class. To copy or transfer data from one worksheet to another requires some toggling and few presses of keys. However, the keys may vary in newer versions of Excel.

Manual Migration of Data

In the case of a short data like attendance sheets of students in classes, you can manually transfer the data from one worksheet to another. The process for doing this involves opening a tab for each month with separate columns for the attendance in each week. The months can be totaled along with a separate tab containing the students' names can be created. Then you can transfer the students' names and the monthly totals of each student on the list, to another worksheet.

The method involves opening both spreadsheets and determining where you want your information to appear. After you've determined the location in the spreadsheet, click on the cell and enter the equal sign. Then you have to go to the Windows tab and click on the other spreadsheet from where you want to migrate the information, to open it. Then press enter. This method would work only if you are using the latest version of Office and its other components.

Transference of Worksheet to another Excel file

With Excel it is possible to transfer worksheets to another Excel file without having to re edit any data component after the transference. Many people are not aware of this function so they are have to resort to modifying each and every cell in the worksheet after transference of data because they have cut and pasted the records. To save time, you can click on the tab of the sheet you want to copy, then select move or copy from the list by pressing the right side button of the mouse. A drop down box appears where you have to choose the folder where you want to migrate the data. Create a new workbook by selecting 'new workbook' from the dialogue box. Scroll and select the file you want to copy your data to and your sheet will be placed without requiring any modifications.

So with Excel it is always easy to deal with data.
